The Florida Panhandle offers Everything you Need
The Northwest beaches of Florida are often overshadowed by their East Coast counterparts, but if you are looking for the unique beach vacation then the Forgotten Coast (St Joe, Apalachicola, Alligator Point and St George Island) and the Emerald Coast (Destin, SanDestin, Pensacola, Panama City Beach and the surrounding northwest panhandle beaches) offer something for everyone. It just depends what you are looking for to determine which beach is best for you.
If you are looking for relaxing, family time and a real Florida experience without all the glitz and glamour of the Ft Lauderdale area then a fabulous place to start is on the beaches due south of the capital in Tallahassee. Most of these beaches are reminders to the "old" Florida. Without question the best authentic experience available lies 50 minutes south of the Tallahassee airport on St George Island. Almost half of this close in island within view of the main peninsula is covered by the St George Island National Park. No high rise buildings exist on the island and every home on the island allows for views of both the Bay and the Gulf. Transportation on the island is simple with uncrowded streets, a few local restaurants and shops and open stretches of Wide Beaches for children and adults alike to explore.
Several of the homes on St George offer multiple terraces and/or balconies, some offer private pools and most are also pet friendly so there is no need to leave your favorite pooch in the family at home. Seasonal Rental Rates vary depending on proximity to the beach, views and size but run from $160 to $260 per night off season and $200 to $300 per night in the high season. Because of the limited number of rentals on the island most homes book well ahead of season for the summer rental season so it is best to reserve early to enjoy this fabulous Florida Vacation Destination..
Not to far inland you will find the quaint fishing village of Apalachicola, which is where you can do some shopping during your stay. The area has been known for its rustic heritage and the village has continued to be unchanged during the last several years while Pensacola have seen development of high rise condos and increased density.
West along the coast you will find the well developed Port St Joe. With nice waterfront rentals, condos and a rejuvenated downtown historic area this city leaves nothing to be desired and can be an ideal vacation location for families searching to escape from the bustle of their normal routine.
To the east is the region around Shell Point and Alligator Point. These two little known areas of the Panhandle offer up uncluttered undeveloped beachfront and quiet tranquility. Without many hotels in Shell Point a vacation rental home is your best bet if you plan to vacation in these areas of the Florida Panhandle.
The Forgotten Coast, as locals like to refer to this area as is aptly named for this Old Florida region, but it is not a vacation destination you can easily forget. Most visitors come once but return year after year. Personally, I came to St George Island for the very first visit in the summer of 1985 and the beauty of the island has held a fond place in my memory ever since. There are only a handful of destinations in the state of Florida that afford the pure Florida experience of this area of Florida. Come for a week and you will remember it for a lifetime!.
Looking for more commercial excitement? Look into the varied options of the Emerald Coast Beaches. Perdido Key and Destin all offer a variety of condos to fulfill your Summer Vacation desires.
Calypso Resort in Panama City Beach offers easy access to Pier Park where you will find a shoppers heaven as well as activities for the whole family. The Destin area offers plenty of action along with great emerald coast beaches and restaurants. Pensacola boasts a multitude of high rise condos available for rent as restaurants from the trendy to the beach lovers McGuire's Pub. Perdido Key is a short drive from Pensacola and offers many lodging choices for the traveler looking to be close to it all – but not necessarily in the middle of it all.
No matter your preference, the Old Florida Charm of the Forgotten Coast or a Wild Splash at an indoor waterpark at the beach on the Emerald Coast, The Florida Panhandle has everything for your next Family Vacation or Couples Getaway.
