Living Lean In The Beginning
Luckily, there is always someone who would like to get rid of a piece or two of older furniture that they have tired of. This makes it handy for the single or new couple just starting out life. Funds are often limited for buying new items and these 'gifts' from family and friends can go a long way to help.
It really takes just a few pieces of furniture to make a comfortable living space. When one looks at their not-so-perfect stuff, hopefully they will see success. Having control over spending is so crucial to a person getting ahead early in life.
Many family's have members that own way too many furnishings and are often very willing to share it with someone deserving and trying to get ahead by being smart and not going into debt. These folks may have a distant memory of when they went out on their own and how they may have been assisted in this way. They are willing to give up the old sleigh bed that was bequeathed to them years ago, along with maybe a bookcase or two, table or chairs. All of that is just taking up room that they could put to better use.
When searching for items to add to the apartment, keep in mind what a little handiwork in the form of painting and re-finishing can do. Many may not see a rattan sofa as something that could be remotely modern, but surprises come in small packages and sprucing up this item could also be fun. A dash of paint here, a recovered cushion there, and all of a sudden appears a beautiful living room piece.
Any time a person can avoid carrying their laundry in and out of the house, it is a good thing, most people feel. When renting an apartment, keep in mind the hot and cold weather and lugging clothes around unnecessarily. If the apartment has a laundry hook-up, whether it be in a separate room or the kitchen or bathroom area, that is normally a good thing. Convenience is a good thing when it can save you time and even money.
There are many unique and adaptive ways to create the furniture needed in a first apartment situation. Some are apt to create neck pain as well, but it is only a temporary arrangement, most likely. Not-so-new pieces can be covered with a throw cover to disguise its imperfections and can be passed on or thrown out when better days arrive.
Take time to get finances in order by taking advantage of inexpensive furniture items, bought or given. They might have once been an older persons junk, but now can be counted 'treasures' in the new hands of up and coming young people.
